Hey there, y'all!
Thanks for suffering through a game with ol' John.
I was certainly multitasking last week as we have had some issue to deal with that needed some "corporate review and recommendations." Well, following the game, discussion with Ocean Downs staff, our internal team including Ben, and in the best interest of players, we have come up with one significant change.
Beginning this week, we are asking that ALL PLAYERS play the game from the dining area. There was ample seating to accommodate the people who came to play. One thing that would help your Host would be by allowing him to have an eyeball on everybody. We are also asking Ben, since he has a helper, to have one of them stroll along the tables several times each night. When applied to our standards for keeping games fair and honest, a little extra eyes on tables will be a help. There are a few other points we discussed and some additional training we went over these are more behind-the-scenes solutions.
The fact is, one team was cheating several times during the game. This cheating team was NOT using the APP to play, they were pencil and paper. The APP is not the problem. As I told one of you last week, the APP actually adds another layer of cheat-prevention to our training and common sense tactics. Those of you calling for the end of the APP are removing one of our best tools to prevent issues!
All of this aside, please understand one important thing: We're here to help people get out of the house, interact with live humans, laugh, and have a generally good time. That's our job. If people aren't having a good time, they'll stop coming. For 21 years we've been quite successful at helping people have a good time! Players who are confronting people, accusing people, or have a permanent Scrooge-like facial expression while talking under their breath (or loudly) about other teams prevents us from succeeding at our job. Adopting new teams, being overtly kind, getting to know them on a first-name-basis, these are the absolute best way you can help prevent cheating. It's just a game. Games are made for fun. If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong. If winning is the reason you come out, you're doing it wrong. If living life to the fullest and enjoying conversations and meeting new people is why you come out, you're doing it well. Keep it up.
Now, on to last week's recap!
Poolbusters were on top at the halftime last week but they weren't alone! They were in a tie with Anger Management. Not to be topped, we also had a tie for 3rd/4th at the halftime break between Retired Beach Bums and That's What She Said. 7 other teams completed the ranks last week.
But who doesn't enjoy art? And who doesn't enjoy a sweet Round 2 Art Bonus? Draw a glass of champagne on the APP whitespace board or on the REAR of your paper answer slip at Round 2, Question #1. 3 points await your creation!
Poolbusters were still in the lead as we neared the final query... and Anger Management were STILL in a dead-heat tie with them! Amazing! That's What She Said had enough of being tied up so they kicked Retired Beach Bums to 4th place and sat in 3rd by themselves.
One final question later, and the race to the finish was ON! Final scores:
7/8) 46pts Picklers
7/8) 46pts Stone Ave
6) 51pts Anger Management
5) 52pts Team Standing
4) 59pts Yellow Bucket
3) 62pts Retired Beach Bums
2) 69pts That's What She Said
1) 71pts Poolbusters
Welcome Ben back this week! Game is ON!
And for the love of all that is good in this world, try to play nice and have fun.
