Ocean Downs – Let's Do Trivia Recap (3/10)
What a night!
We kicked things off with 10 teams, and by Round 2 we had 11 teams battling it out for trivia glory. This was my first time hosting 11 teams and getting more familiar with hybrid format (Paper & Digital play) at Ocean Downs, so thank you all for your patience while I worked through the flow of the game.
A Quick Note on Digital Play
If your team can go digital, it really helps keep the game running smoothly.
Instead of writing answers down and walking them up, you simply type your answer and submit it from your table. The answers appear instantly on my screen, which means:
- Faster scoring
- Less chance of misreading handwriting
- More time for trivia!
Typing in answers manually for every team can take a few minutes each round, while digital submissions only take a few seconds. If you haven't tried it yet, give it a shot next time — it's super easy!

Halftime Drama
At the halfway mark the leaderboard was tight:
- 1st Anger Management – 1st
- 2nd Retired Beach Bums – 2nd
- 3rd Swamp Rats, Lucky Guess & Stone Ave – tied for 3rd
All separated by just ONE point!
Before the Final Question
The pressure kept building:
- Pine Nuts took the lead
- Retired Beach Bums trailed by 1 point
- Stone Ave & Anger Management were tied for 3rd, just 3 points back
- Swamp Rats & Natty Bratty were tied for second-to-last (and remember… last place wins a prize!)

Four teams decided to go all-in with the max 20-point wager:

To help the game run smoother:
Halftime Question
- Teams will have 1 song to submit answers
- The second song will be used for scoring
Final Question
- 1 song to submit answers
- 1 song for scoring
The Tie-Breaker question will now be included with the Final Question.
Digital Teams:
Include your tie-breaker answer in the final answer slot.
Paper Teams:
Write it as "TB – Your Answer" on the slip.
This helps me find it quickly!
Game Bonuses in 5 places
On-Time Bonus
A fun icebreaker question.
- All teams that answer receive 3 points
- One team randomly drawn gets 4 points
Draw Bonus
Round 2 – Question 1
For the 3/17 game, draw something themed around St. Patrick's Day
and add your team number, turn it in to receive 3 bonus points.
Census Bonus
Round 3 – Question 3
Include how many players are on your team when submitting your answer.
Earn 1 bonus point
Team Selfie Bonus (Digital Only)
Halftime
After submitting your halftime answer, a photo upload opens.
Take a team selfie and earn 1 point. Show your team spirit with everyone on your team in the photo.
Tip for getting the point:
Have someone hold up fingers matching your team number.
If your team number is 11 or higher, use two people.
Music Bonus
Round 6 – Question 1
A cover song will be played.
You must identify:
- The song title
- The cover artist/band
Points:
- 1 correct = 1 point
- Both correct = 3 points
